Eric Frater
Home Our People Eric Frater

Eric was born in Sutherland in 1939 and grew up in the Sutherland Shire.  He learnt of the work of ACAS at Kirinari hostels in 1968 and then became involved in ACAS. His first honorary role with the Society was as Branch Public Relations Officer and later he became General Secretary of ACAS after being asked to apply for the position.  At this time the Society had five branches and managed 5 hostels. That position was changed to Administrator shortly afterwards. Eric was proud of the achievements of ACAS and their custodianship of Kirinari hostels.

Eric was very committed to the success of the hostels and left the printing trade to help out at Kirinari Sylvania as operations were efffected by insufficient government funding. He assisted by staying overnight to supervise the second wing of the Sylvania Kirinari hostel and by providing opportunities for the students to be involved in the community..

Eric instigated the Kirinari Links Facebook page which connects past students of the Kirinari hostels.

Eric’s contribution to Kirinari and the Aboriginal Children’s Advancement Society has been immeasurable.

Eric passed early in 2024. ACAS remembers him fondly.

Eric Frater

In the spirit of reconciliation, the Aboriginal Children's Advancement Society (ACAS) acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. ACAS acknowledges and respects that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the original and first inhabitants of Australia and incorporates all areas of cultural significance in the work and programs that it develops and implements to enhance the educational, health and general well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
